"Phantom Gourmet and the Andelmans receive no compensation from this event.  All the proceeds go directly to the Joey Fund and Cystic Fibrosis, and by planning and promoting the event they help us keep the overhead extremely low."

History

The Hot Dog Safari
The Hot Dog Safari is an entire day of food and fun, all to benefit the Joey Fund, Cystic Fibrosis. The Hot Dog Safari features a dozen kinds of hot dogs, other delicious foods, and tons of fun for both adults and kids. Tickets are just $15 in advance and $20 at the event, which includes the food, soft drinks and water $1. Kids aged 5 and under are free.  The event was founded in 1989.  It began as a simple bus tour of 200 people seeking the best hot dog in New England.  The Safari continued to outgrow venues until it was moved to Suffolk Downs in East Boston.  This year, we expect 30,000 people to attend.

Eddie Andelman & Theo Epstein

Eddie Andelman
Eddie Andelman is one of the greatest radio hosts in history.  He began his career in 1969, inventing a whole new genre of sports talk radio.  Eddie is known for his trademark "digressions" that often involved food.  He combined his love of food and fun to found the Hot Dog Safari, serving as a one-man event planning and promotions machine.  In 2009, he handed the "hot dog reins" to his sons Dave, Mike, and Dan, owners of the Phantom Gourmet.  As a tribute to their dad, the boys will coordinate and promote the event, refusing to accept any compensation.  All proceeds go directly to the Joey Fund, Cystic Fibrosis. With overhead already extremely low, the Andelman boys hope to keep raising awareness, increasing revenues, and cutting expenses so they can add to the millions of dollars that the Hot Dog Safari has already raised under their dad's leadership.
